Community
Starts With You
The mission of the Charter Street Tenant Association is to promote the rights of the tenants of 27 Charter Street in Salem, Massachusetts, a supportive living facility for elderly and disabled persons, through peer support, education, hearings, surveys and advocacy by providing input for all budgets and changes in policies and procedures of the Salem Housing Authority.
The CSTA undertakes activities that improve physical and mental health, reduces isolation and builds community.
Our Organization
The CSTA was formed in 2017 by a group of concerned residents to insure that the people living at 27 Charter Street were treated fairly and equally in their dealings with the Salem Housing Authority and Public Housing policies. We are active members of the Massachusetts Union of Public Housing Tenants, the first statewide public housing tenants’ organization in the nation.
Since that time, the Association has grown as both an advocate for tenant’s rights and a social organization, sponsoring day trips to local sights and events, guest speakers from city government and cultural centers and catered lunches throughout the year, in an effort to keep the people living at 27 Charter Street active and involved.
Take Action
The CSTA is always looking for volunteers to help organize events and fundraisers, as well as help with administrative duties. Please consider working with us as we continue to be a unique and worthwhile organization!
We are a volunteer-driven non-profit (501C3) organization dedicated to the enrichment of the elderly and/or handicapped residents of 27 Charter Street - our “Neighborhood”. 100% of funds raised go to fund our programs and events.
The CSTA is also seeking “in kind” donations of products, services and gift cards that we can distribute to residents in need.
General donations “In Memory Of” or “In Honor Of” help to defer costs and make a difference. Please go to our DONATIONS page to make your tax-free donation today.
